It is difficult to find the perfect words to capture the atmosphere of a tourist region. However, we would like to quote one of our guests, who often returns to the glacier region of Kaunertal-Fendels and who values this kind of holiday, so far removed from any kind of ‘Disneyworld in the mountains’ or binge-drinking ski resort.

“This wonderful little valley in the high mountains aims to convey the joy of the mountain world to the guests, in an honest, hospitable, cosy and – last but not least –  affordable way.”

Logo - principles

In October 2005, the Kaunertaler Gletscherbahnen adopted a new logo, which bears the symbol of the ibex.
The ibex symbolises the mountain world of the Alps like no other animal, and has a long history and tradition in the two neighbouring valleys of Pitztal and Kaunertal.  By the beginning of the 19^th century, the ibex had become almost extinct. Popular medical belief held the animal to be a kind of universal medicine and it survived only in Swiss zoos and on the private hunting grounds of King Victor Emanuel II in the Southern Alps.

In 1953, the state hunting ground in Pitztal began the task of resettling the ibex in its natural habitat.  Soon, the animals travelled over into the Kaunertal. The region of Pitztal and Kaunertal is now regarded as the home of the largest ibex colony in Austria.

The ibex is once more included as one of the symbols on the coat of arms of the municipality of Kaunertal and also on the coat of arms of the community of St. Leonhard in Pitztal.

Furthermore, the Naturpark Kaunergrat and the Pitztaler Gletscherbahn and Kaunertaler Gletscherbahnen have included the ibex as a symbol on their company logos.
