35. KAUNERTAL OPENING 2020 BACK TO FREEDOM – BACK ON SNOW!
WITH THE SLOGAN “back to freedom – back on snow”, THE SNOWPARK KAUNERTAL WILL BE OPENED FOR THE 35TH TIME WITH THE “KTO WEEKEND”. IN THIS CHALLENGING “2020” YEAR, THE FOCUS WILL BE ON MEETING ON THE MOUNTAIN AND TAKE THE FIRST RIDES IN A KIND OF FREEDOM AGAIN. THE 2KM LONG #NATURAL RUN OF THE SNOWPARK KAUNERTAL WILL PROVIDE THE OPTIMAL CONDITIONS TO HAVE THE FIRST AND SPECIALLY SAFE PARK LAPS. AND YOU KNOW WHAT: DUE TO THE ENORMOUS SNOW RESERVES OF THE SHORTENED SPRING SEASON THE OPENING SETUP BECOMES “BIGGER THAN EVER!
The Kaunertal Opening has always been “the place to be” to properly celebrate the start of the season. In 2020, the focus will be on the opportunity to finally enjoy park runs together again and celebrate the reunion. The numerous sessions with a proper “Cash4Trick” guarantee the perfect platform to show which tricks you can do after the summer break. Cool side events in an open format invite you to participate and more than 35 exhibitors of the most renowned brands in the scene offer the latest equipment of the season for free in a safe, spacious test area. We look forward to the well-known “laid back” atmosphere together with you!

The #naturerun 2020 – already during Opening weekend “bigger than ever”
THE SNOW RESERVES FROM THE MUCH TOO SHORT SPRING SEASON ARE NOW TURNING US AWAY TO A PROMISE: THE OPENING PARK WE DEFINITELY BIGGER THAN EVER!
What does that mean exactly? In the upper area of the park, one or the other “big kicker” will be available for plenty of airtime on the opening weekend! Then the #naturerun “snakes” through natural “sections” down to the lower part known as “half-mile-jib-line” with endless feature combos and the medium kicker line. With this “run” everyone gets their money’s worth – there is something for all riding levels!
At this point it should be mentioned again in advance: we drive 100% on old snow reserves and not on glaciers! This focus has been infinitely important to us since switching to this page and you should always be aware of it. We want to “celebrate” long park seasons with you at this altitude for even longer!
4 SESSSIONS WITH A LOT “CASH 4 TRICK” BUDGET
THE SPORTY FOCUS IN THIS YEAR IS CERTAINLY ON THE NUMEROUS SESSIONS IN THE JIB´N´SKATE PLAYGROUND WHICH WILL BE DISTRIBUTING REAL “CASH”!
Keep your distance and get together in a sporty way! No contest pressure á la “Olympia”, no point deductions when hand in the snow…. It’s all about doing a few cool tricks, “shredding” with friends and receiving cash for them. You know about the unique flair of the well-known Jib’n’Skate Playground in the terrace setup.

35. KTO FREE TESTIVAL
THE MOST HOTTEST SNOWBOARD, FREESKI AND FREERIDE BRANDS ARE OFFERING THEIR LATEST EQUIPMENT TO TEST FOR FREE AGAIN! THE NECESSARY DISTANCES DURING THE TEST PROCEDURES ARE CREATED BY AN EXTENDED AREA – FEEL FREE TO TEST & FEEL SAFE!
This year you can again test the latest equipment from the hottest snowboard, freeski and freeride brands for free. The latest trends for the 20/21 season will be presented at the numerous test stands and over 35 brands. Get advice, compare and test what’s going on and find your equipment for dreamy shredding days that perfectly suits you and your needs! Make a small preselection of the brands that you can expect at the testival now …
Due to the Covid-19 situation you can fill out the registartion form before you arrive to the Snowpark. We are offering online registration for the first time.
Simply fill out and take the completed form with you to the Testival accreditation on the mountain!

PUMP TRACK | MINIRAMP | BALANCE BOARD PARK | SNOWBOARD GALLERY
In addition to the extensive sessions, there are traditionally again numerous side events that round off your opening stay in an open format (i.e. without registration, just use the offers). Do a few laps of the pump track or in the highest mini-ramp “worldwide”;) (“bring your decks”). Train your “balance” at the Balance Board Park or take a look at the boards from the last 30 years at the Snowboard Museum booth.
KTO ART V(G)ALLERY
THIS YEAR NEW IN THE VALLEY: THE QUELLALPIN LOCATION BECOMES AN ART GALLERY AND “place to be” TO SEE UNIQUE PICTURES FROM THE SNOWBOARD AND FREESKI SCENE PLUS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE BRAND NEW BOARDS, A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SNOWBOARD
The protagonists and scene photographers are none other than Theo Acworth from the well-known Method Mag and Felix Pirker. In addition, the best pictures from 35 years of the Kaunertal Opening will be shown in large-format prints. The book written by Peter Radacher (among others Snowboardmuseum.com) looks at snowboarding during the last 30 years in the comprehensive book “Boards, a brief history of the snowboard” from the beginning and will even present new information to the “core rider” among you. The whole thing takes place with free entry in the Quellalpin. You are invited to take a look at the ART V(G)ALLERY on the opening weekend, browse through the book and enjoy the gallery!

Also this year, just before the toll station, an official campsite with services is offered at a fair price. If you want to spend the opening weekend more or less in the open air (on the bus, in a tent), you should book a place here. The warm shower after a day on the glacier is wonderful – in addition, in the interests of sustainable use of our nature, garbage disposal is also provided (here there are plenty of rubbish bins).
