Caught cold – the amazing glacier cave on the Kaunertal Glacier
Anyone looking to cool off in the hot summer the Kaunertal Glacier’s high altitude means you’ll find not only refreshing mountain air, but also ice-cold glacier ice!
Deep inside the glacier lies a fascinating natural wonder: our glacier cave.
Even though it can no longer be entered for safety reasons and due to the ongoing melting process, it is still worth taking a look from the secured viewing point. The impressive ice structure, formed by thousands of years of glacier movement, reveals itself in shimmering shades of blue and bizarre shapes.
A unique place that impressively showcases the power and beauty of nature – even if only from a safe distance.

100-year-old-ice!
There is something unique about walking through the glacier cave, feeling the glacier ice and watching the play of light in the different shades of blue. Here you can see ice that is at least 100 years old, which has flowed over the years from the Weißseeferner’s nutrient zone to the area of the glacier tongue.
